Primary School
Introduction
We at Sunflower International Primary School aim to develop the life-long learning capacity of our students by focusing on skills, concepts, attitudes & knowledge necessary to be reflective, critical thinkers & problem solvers. Our children are not only expected to work in a positive, enthusiastic and disciplined manner, they are encouraged to be active learners who aspire to be the best they can. The primary section also has a dedicated library and encourages child's development of literacy skills.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is based on the National Syllabus which is designed to provide an all-round, holistic education with equal importance to Academics, Arts, Sports, Cultural & Social activities. Students are guided & nurtured but also taught to be reflective learners who seek opportunities to improve upon their work. Individual and group projects, educational posters, and other mind-stimulating material are displayed on classroom walls to create a cheerful and engaging environment and to inspire students to aim high.
The national curriculum is offered in both English and Sinhala medium for children in Grades 1 to 5. Apart from the class assignments the school holds examinations three times a year. The parents are well informed about the child's progress through parent-teacher meetings. We ensure a positive and productive, physical, and cultural environment to observe and guide the child towards their ambitions.
Extra Curricular Activities
Actively taking part in sports within the Primary section is considered to be of great importance. The Annual Primary Inter-house Sports Meet & the Year-End School Concert play a vital role in the school calendar, with students competing enthusiastically for medals and trophies.
We offer a variety of extra-curricular activities such as Abacus training, Elocution, Chess, music, and dancing too. They also take part in British Lanka Festival for the Performing Arts every year.
We value the importance of the creative and performing arts, and the role they play in positively impacting an academic achievement, but also in developing self-esteem, confidence, collaboration, appreciation, and enjoyment.
